Breather & Vapour membrane kits
In the Self Build Garden Room Guide and sample plans we talk about the importance of a breather membrane in your build-up. The breather membrane wraps around the exterior of the building and allows the core structure to breathe. Stopping moisture entering the core structure but at the same time letting moisture escape from within the building.

Breather membranes are sold by the roll, and you need to make sure that the joints are all taped. You can’t use a tape like Gaffer tape, which won’t create the right seal, rather you need to use a special membrane tape.
As part of our research for the costings of our forthcoming 3-in-1 sample plans, we spotted this Breather Membrane Kit which includes the membrane and the appropriate sealing tapes. One kit is more than sufficient for the 3m x 3m garden room we are currently pricing up.
You can also buy Vapour Membrane Kits that include the appropriate sealant tapes. Again, one kit is more than enough for the 3m x 3m garden room we are currently working on. The vapour membrane is fitted on the warm side of the insulation, so inside the building. We recently communicated with Celotex technical team, and they suggested that a 1000 gauge vapour membrane be used when the Celotex in fitted between a studwork frame.
